Editorial

The system of democratic representation is a system of hypocrisy and perpetual lies. It needs the stupidity of the people as a necessary condition for its existence, and it bases its triumphs upon this state of the people's minds.
Mikhail Bakunin

Days for remembering and for action

This issue of "Hijos del Pueblo" comes at a crucial time for all workers. Two important dates for celebrating, remembering and struggle come together this month: 8th March, the International Day of Working Women and the 24th, the so-called "Memorial Day", with which the State seeks to obscure the continuing nature of its crimes against poverty and social protest, relegated to a supposedly distant past. Like the 146 women comrades who were burned alive by the bosses, 30,000 companions both male and female disappeared, or were subjected to torture, humiliation and death. The blood of those who walked the path of struggle with a firm step calls upon us to continue the fight against patriarchy, the State and capital. It is to strengthen this reality and provide ourselves with the necessary weapons that we continue with our exposition on the relationship between anarchism and syndicalism, as well as making available to all our comrade readers analysis of the ravages of this crisis and its counterpart - the conflicts that are appearing day by day in the struggle to preserve jobs and compete in the market. Getting back to production, that is the slogan for them, for everyone. We must light the torch of resistance so that the workers' fire can face up to ambitions of capital. It is the capitalists who must pay the consequences of the crisis, born as it was from the mud and shame of a system that has been rotten since its inception. We will allow not one job to be lost, not one worker to be laid off, not a single peso to be taken from our miserable wages! Because every onslaught of the employers means one less plate at our table, it means hunger, pain and shame for our children, our parents, our brothers and sisters.

But none of this will matter to the parliamentary candidates whose hypocritical smiles beam down from the election posters, the hyenas who hide their own human misery and lust for power. They vie with each other to head their party lists, they talk and talk on radio and television without saying anything. They are nothing, they just lie and show us the way to the ballot box and the ballot paper, which are nothing more than a mirage that they use to make us believe we can change something, though nothing ever really changes. They want us to forget the one true source of society's redemption and humanity's salvation: the Social Revolution. And many will go in hope to place their vote in the hope that something new, something different will come. "This time might be the right time" they say, trying to convince themselves. But not long after, they will become disheartened again, when they find that although the face of power changes, it remains the same as ever, the same torturer and trigger-happy murderer who also kills by exploitation, food shortages and inflation. This is where we anarchists must be, providing strength and supporting our comrades, showing them the path that we must march along together, shoulder to shoulder until the final victory.

To the streets, comrades! Let's take the factory, the workshops, the call center, the school and the university campus! Join us in the making a new world, with the light of socialism and freedom, that opens a passage between the dark worlds of fear and injustice. Horizontal assemblies and direct action are its arms, and the bureaucracy and liars will never get their hands on these. With our drums and our demands, our heads raised high with the dignity of those who fight for what is right. Because it is up to us to change the future, through rebellion - now!

The emancipation of the workers will be the task of the workers themselves!

image40 Points For Action Here Feb 17 by Federación Anarquista Uruguaya 0 comments

Today we present in English the FAU text "40 points for action here", a material of balance and analysis of the social situation and the struggles of 1968.

The authoritarian advance in Uruguay was relevant at that time, as was the resistance to it and the new levels of popular struggle that were developing. In this context, the "40 points", as well as being a balance sheet, mark an orientation of work in the trade union milieu, but are extendable to the whole social milieu, focusing on political organisation as the decisive factor.

It is a material of enormous relevance that is still valid today and can guide the work of social insertion in the most diverse situations. It is very useful today.

The text is made up of several points that deal with the national situation at the time, the political and ideological changes, the disastrous role of reformism in putting the brakes on the struggles and attempting to channel them into the electoral-institutional terrain and, finally, the approach to the method of class-based trade union building and struggle to be deployed in the framework of a general strategy of rupture.

We hope that this material will be of use to anarchist comrades all over the world. Health and Up with those that Struggle!

"Huerta Grande" is a seminal text of South American Especifismo. It was written in 1972 as an internal discussion document of the Federación Anarquista Uruguaya, right before the brutal military coup was installed in 1973. This is the first English translation. [Castellano]

imageZACF message to the Federación Anarquista Uruguaya (FAU) on its 60th Anniversary Oct 30 ZACF 0 comments

We, militants of the Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Front (ZACF), send you a big clenched fist salute and revolutionary internationalist greetings on this the historic occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Federación Anarquista Uruguaya (FAU) – commemorating 60 years of struggle for freedom and socialism. It has been a long and no doubt hard and bumpy road since 1956. We honour the many FAU militants who, like Alberto “Pocho” Mechoso, gave up their freedom and even their lives in the struggle for freedom and socialism. Yet, after all is said and done, you are celebrating another milestone, another anniversary. You continue to keep the red and black banner of class struggle anarchism alive and well on the Latin American continent – holding it up as an example for all to see.

The ‘José Ingenieros’ Popular Library, founded 1st July 1935, is one of the three historical centres of the Anarchist movement in the city of Buenos Aries, Argentina. It houses the Alfredo Seoane Archive, as well as the library itself, which together offer an important quantity of material on anarchism and the Workers’ movement. At present, the age of the building and the growth of the collections create a series of obstacles to our normal functioning. We, therefore, ask for your collaboration.

The need to build from below and outside the State, and the prospect of generating a specifically anarchist strategy, led us to search for a common ground where we could come together. The Columna Durruti, (Western zone), Columna Malatesta (Cap. Fed. zone), and Columna Penina (Rosario zone) were expressions of this search, together with a whole litter of comrades in different parts of the country. [Italiano] [Castellano]
