RELEASE:

Saturday 6 November, 2 pm, Centro de Cultura Social, Rua Torres Homem 790, Vila Isabel, Rio de Janeiro

Lucien van der Walt will talk on "Black Flame: The Revolutionary Class Politics of Anarchism and Syndicalism" ["A Chama Negra: a política revolucionária e classista do anarquismo e do sindicalismo"]. This provides a global survey and unmatched analysis of the traditions of anarchism and syndicalism over the last 150 years. It examines the movement's role in colonial and postcolonial countries, in unions and in civil rights movements, in revolutionary struggles, anti-imperialism and feminism. Brazil (and Latin America) features heavily in the book, as does South Africa (and Africa), and both are located in a global labour analysis. Today anarchism is again emerging as an important current in many Latin American countries, as well as elsewhere in the West, East and South.
