On the government's new apprentice contract

The labour reform already in progress will lead to an unprecedented casualization: €426 a month, no unemployment benefit, no holidays, no maximum hours limit, no insurance, no paid bank holidays and no time off. This reform will simply swap a contract with rights for a new one which is cheaper for businesses, without any protection for workers.

The CNT denounces this new labour reform, approved on the backs of the people during the election campaign and which comes into force the day after. It will not create the promised jobs nor will it help young people find jobs. Quite the opposite - it represents a complete loss of rights for workers. Companies can adopt these contracts without limit, which means that qualified professionals will cost at least 3 times less than now. The result of this will be the replacement of workers currently under contract with "apprentices", serving only to make the labour market even more precarious.

This contract is aimed at people under 25 with any sort of qualifications. There is no limit to the number of contracts per person. They call it an "agreement with young people for non-work practices", rather than what it really is - a contract for depriving workers of their rights with a salary of €426 (below the minimum wage), no holidays, no maximum hours, no social insurance, time off, paid bank holidays, or leave of absence, freely modifiable, etc.

This reform will also mean a reduction in Social Security contributions by employers, as happened in previous labour reforms, meaning a decapitalization of the system and a progressive collapse of the pension system.

The bosses had already expressed their desire to create a new form of contract. All the government has done is to bend to their wishes once again, making the workers pay for the crisis, with the complicity of the CCOO and the UGT.

Against this, the CNT calls for a forceful response in the belief that it is necessary to smash once and for all the dynamic of fear, despair, division and every-man-for-himself. We must begin to organize amongst ourselves in order to get out onto the streets and say enough is enough, as thousands of workers in other parts of the world are doing.
