And given the fact that current policies are geared towards criminalizing foreigners or, in less extreme cases, reducing the numbers of foreigners in the various holding centres - which translates into big business for Catholic bodies - the only ace left up Italian politicians' collective sleeve in their attempt to curry favour with the Pope is to take it out on women. It's a hot summer. What better than a nice clerical problem to distract us from more serious problems and get us worked up? After years of interference from the clerics, the Italian Medicines Agency, AIFA, has finally approved the use of Mifepristone (the WHO did in 2003). [Italiano]
We will be taking part in the 24 November demonstration against violence on women as this is something that concerns not just women, even though it is women, of whatever sexual orientation, who need to defend themselves from it. They have to defend themselves from it when they are subjected to it, they have to defend themselves from it when it is used against them in order to restrict everyone's freedom... [ Italiano ]
Clearly it is not enough, but against fundamentalist interference in the running of society and in order to increase the possibility for freedom, we must not allow ourselves to be limited to events such as this in order to go on creating initiatives or opportunities for public debate and struggle. We must win back our collective decision-making power and put an end to God and the State ruling our bodies and our lives.
