Our vast continent, Africa, is the poorest in the world, host to dozens of wars and conflicts, and marked by instability and inequality. The root causes of the instability lie in political corruption and the profiteering system run by local and international elites. The local ruling classes are interested in making profits and getting wealthy, by any means necessary. The elites are not promoting the development of the working class and peasants (small farmers), but only worsening our conditions. If the choice is between building a road in a poor area or pocketing the money, they will pocket the money. GREEDY ELITES, WEAK ECONOMIESPolitical and economic domination by small African elites, allied to ruling classes from other regions, is part of the instability, corruption and exploitation. Ordinary people in Africa face a severe lack of necessary goods and service delivery. Often the allocation of goods and services is through corrupt political relationships, not on the basis of need but on the basis of personal and political ties. Corrupt capitalists, corrupt politicians, are part of a world where the gap between the haves and have-nots is very wide.These weak economies, reliant on poor infrastructure and low-value raw materials, are marked by low wages, mass unemployment and tensions across society, and plunder by elites. Either the state elite controls the means of production and the working class has no say but must just do as it is told, or there is privatisation and private ownership, where the business elite is in control. And meanwhile, African economies are generally at the bottom of the ladder in the world, a situation caused both by imperialism and by the indigenous elites. In this world, you face the danger of eat-or-be-eaten. At the bottom the food chain we're under the rule of the minority who make up the oligarchy, a world of rule by the few, where we are locked up and locked out. In this world, we are taught to hate each other, based on language, looks and origins. But our enemy is not each other, it is the classes that rule us from above. CLASS-CONSCIOUSNESS BUILDINGIn order to have a way forward, Africa requires a long-term programme of class-consciousness building, relevant education and increasing social/ class struggle.There must be collective unity and solidarity amongst the suffering ordinary people in Africa, the workers, unemployed, the peasants, and the poor. No matter the race or colour or culture or origin, we must unite in the class struggle, so we can achieve a radical breakthrough, not just in one country but in all countries. This includes removing inequality through the abolition of post- colonial capitalism and the state and the ruling classes, and starting to ease the agony of extreme want. Real, people-centred development is possible only if we break away from both state and capitalism - two major forces of oppression - and create a self-managed, bottom-up society and economy planned from below to meet needs, not greed. The fundamentally capitalist state system in Africa has created unsuitable socio-political and economic structures. It needs to go. Anarchism is the way forward. THE FUTUREThe future lies in the direction of freedom, equality and community participation - not hatred. Crisis- ridden capitalism, the state system, selfish individualism and competitiveness are problems to end.We need peace amongst the masses, and struggle against the ruling classes! |

Solidarity statement with the anarchist prisoner Alfredo Cospito 1st of May, 1886! 136 years ago today, the American working class created a priceless experience for the upcoming struggles of the working classes of the whole world by saying “this fight is our last fight!”. It remains a victory till our time. The demand of “8 hours for work, 8 hours for sleep, 8 hours for whatever we want” to replace the 16 hours of work and the assaults of capitalism which targeted the lives of the working classes then in the 19th century turned into a general strike in America. General strike has been one of the most significant weapons of the anarchist action as an earning to the history of the class struggle. For anarchists, the struggle for 8 hours has never been seen as a simple request for reform. Anarchists fought to replace it with a social revolution, with the claim that “Regardless of our working time, whether it be 2 hours or 8 hours, it is slavery if we work for bosses”. [Castellano] We recognise the FAU's contributions to the libertarian movement and the sacrifice of comrades past and present. We send our congratulations on the 65th anniversary of the FAU. Delegations from Wales, France, Italy, Switzerland and Ireland - with a warm solidarity statement from our Catalan comrades of Embat - expressed the need to clarify and deepen our common work. The Anarkismo network has already published a statement that it would wait until all parts of the accusations by Reid Ross and Stephens were published, as well as the answers of M. Schmidt, before making any judgements on the case. Now that this has been forthcoming, as well as two more responses by Reid Ross, we are issuing a second statement to make public our intentions regarding the present situation.

The present text —the core of which was taken from the introduction that we wrote for the French edition of Social Anarchism and Organization, by the Anarchist Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FARJ)[1]— aims to discuss the question of the specific anarchist political organization, based on the contributions of Mikhail Bakunin, Errico Malatesta and the Organizational Platform for a General Union of Anarchists, written by militants organized around the magazine Dielo Trudá, among whom were Nestor Makhno and Piotr Archinov. We are going to take up the contributions of Bakunin and Malatesta to establish a dialogue between them and the Platform, trace the similarities and differences between the proposals of anarchists who advocate an organizational dualism and those of the Bolsheviks, and we will see the proximity of Malatesta with the Synthesis, as well as the historical impact of the Platform, which will make it possible to elucidate the positions that have been disseminated about this debate.
The present text aims to discuss, from a theoretical-historical perspective, some organizational issues related to anarchism. It responds to the assertion, constantly repeated, that anarchist ideology or doctrine is essentially spontaneous and contrary to organization. Returning to the debate among anarchists about organization, this article maintains that there are three fundamental positions on the matter: those who are against organization and / or defend informal formations in small groups (anti-organizationism); supporters of organization only at the mass level (syndicalism and communitarianism), and those who point out the need for organization on two levels, the political-ideological and the mass (organizational dualism). This text delves into the positions of the third current, bringing theoretical elements from Mikhail Bakunin and then presenting a historical case in which the anarchists held, in theory and in practice, that position: the activity of the Federation of Anarchist Communists of Bulgaria (FAKB) between the twenties and forties of the twentieth century. To begin the discussion on popular power it is important to return to the idea of a strategy of social transformation, since our political practice, as anarchists, is what could point toward this transformation.
The theoretical elements and historical experiences discussed undergird the theses developed throughout this article. Anarchists have a conception of power and a general project around it that forms their conception of class, understood in relation to a certain type of power (domination), and constitutes the foundation of their notion of social change, which is characterized by: their belief in the capacity for action of the subjects that are part of the distinct oppressed classes, their implication in the transformation of that capacity into social force, their commitment to permanent growth of this force, and their defense of a revolutionary process that allows for overcoming enemy forces and replacing the power of domination over society by a self-managing power. more >>

Il nostro immenso continente, l'Africa, è il più povero del mondo, sede di decine di guerre e di conflitti, marcato dall'instabilità e dalle disuguaglianze. Le cause profonde di questa instabilità si ritrovano nella corruzone politica ed in un sistema fondato sull'affarismo di classi dirigenti locali ed internazionali.
L'interesse delle classi dirigenti locali è quello di fare profitti ed arricchirsi con tutti i mezzi possibili. Queste classi dirigenti non fanno nulla per lo sviluppo della classe operaia e contadina (i piccoli agricoltori), se non peggiorare le nostre condizioni di vita. Se la scelta è tra finanziare la costruzione di una strada in un'area depressa o mettersi i soldi in tasca, ebbene il denaro finirà nelle loro tasche.
CLASSI DIRIGENTI AVIDE, ECONOMIE DEBOLI
La dominazione politica ed economica da parte delle classi dirigenti africane, ancorchè minoritarie, alleate con le classi dominanti di altre regioni, fa parte della instabilità, della corruzione e dello sfruttamento. La gente comune in Africa deve affrontare una grave penuria di beni di prima necessità e di servizi sociali. Spesso l'allocazione dei beni e dei servizi poggia su relazioni politiche alimentate dalla corruzione, su legami personali e politici e non sui bisogni delle popolazioni. Capitalisti corrotti, politici corrotti, fanno parte di un mondo in cui la forbice tra chi ha tutto e chi non ha niente è sempre più ampia.
Queste economie deboli, dipendenti da fragili infrastrutture e da materie prime di basso valore, sono caratterizzate da bassi salari, dalla disoccupazione di massa e dalle tensioni che attraversano tutta la società, dal saccheggio operato dalle classe dirigenti. O c'è lo Stato che controlla i mezzi di produzione e la classe lavoratrice non ha alcuna voce ma deve solo obbedire, altrimenti ci sono le privatizzazioni e la proprietà privata, ed il controllo passa nelle mani delle classi dirigenti del capitale.
E nel frattempo, le economie africane si trovano in generale nei posti più bassi a livello mondiale, in una situazione causata sia dall'imperialismo che dalle classi dirigenti indigene.
In questo mondo, devi fare i conti con quella legge che dice: mangia-o-sarai-mangiato. Ai posti più bassi nella catena alimentare, ci troviamo sotto la dominazione di una minoranza che si fa oligarchia, in un mondo di regole fatte da pochi, in cui siamo rinchiusi e senza accessi. In questo mondo, ci hanno insegnato a coltivare gli uni verso gli altri un odio basato sulla lingua, sull'aspetto, sulle origini. Ma il nostro nemico non è il nostro prossimo, bensì le classi che governano su di noi.
COSTRUIRE COSCIENZA DI CLASSE
Per trovare una via d'uscita, l'Africa ha bisogno di un programma a lungo termine di costruzione di coscienza di classe, di formazione di alta qualità e del moltiplicarsi di lotte sociali e di classe.
Ci deve essere unità collettiva e solidarietà tra le gente comune che soffre in Africa, tra gli operai, tra i disoccupati, tra i contadini, tra i poveri. Non hanno alcuna importanza le differenze etniche, il colore o le origini, dobbiamo unirci nella lotta di classe, solo così potremo giungere ad una rottura radicale, e non in un paese solo ma in tutti i paesi.
Questo richiede la rimozione delle disuguaglianze attraverso l'abolizione del capitalismo post-coloniale, dello Stato e delle classe dominanti, per agevolare la fine dello stato di estrema indigenza. Un reale sviluppo centrato sui popoli è possibile solo se facciamo a meno sia dello Stato che del capitalismo, le due maggiori forze dell'oppressione - per creare una società autogestita, dal basso, ed un'economia pianificata dal basso che risponda ai bisogno e non all'avidità.
Il sistema capitalista di stato che ha messo fondamenta in Africa ha creato strutture economiche e politico-sociali dannose. Se ne devono andare. Solo l'anarchismo è la strada per il futuro.
IL FUTURO
Il futuro sta nella direzione che porta alla libertà, all'uguaglianza ed alla partecipazione delle comunità - e non all'odio. Il capitalismo in crisi, il sistema statale, l'individualismo egoista e la competizione sono problemi a cui bisogna mettere fine.
E' necessaria la pace tra le masse, e la lotta contro le classi dominanti!
