Review about a famous person's participation in the French Resistance during World War 2. The best French movie is Children of Paradise (1945). It is a sweeping romance set in the 19th-century Parisian demimonde. One of the main characters is Baptiste (Jean-Louise Barrault), a mime. He is among one of four men who briefly come to the attention of Garance (Arletty), the main female character. While all the actors are excellent, it is the tender portrayal of Baptiste and his scenes that tend to stick in the memory. An interesting aspect of the film is the conditions in which it was made. Production took place during World War 2 in both Vichy and Occupied France. The participants in the picture ranged in their actions and political sympathies, with some extras being resistance members and some of the leads later being accused of collaboration. |

If you're a fan of historical dramas or interested in learning more about the heroic efforts of the French Resistance during World War II, Resistance is definitely worth watching.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these two French movies. It is interesting to learn about the historical context in which Children of Paradise was made and the different political sympathies of its cast and crew. It sounds like a fascinating movie with memorable characters.
Regarding Resistance, it is unfortunate that the movie takes liberties with historical truth, particularly in its portrayal of Marcel Marceau's interactions with Klaus Barbie. While it is understandable that some alterations are necessary in a biopic, the manipulations in this film seem to betray a lack of confidence in the subject. Nevertheless, it is commendable that the movie sheds light on Marceau's role in the resistance and his use of mime to help Jewish children escape the Nazis.
Overall, while Children of Paradise is a classic that has stood the test of time, Resistance may not be a "must-see" movie, particularly given its historical inaccuracies. However, both movies offer interesting insights into French culture and history.
