Ein subjektiver Rückblick

Inzwischen hat sich die politische Klasse in der Bundesrepublik auf die Sprachregelung geeinigt, die Richard von Weizsäcker längst schon vorgegeben hatte: Das Datum der Kapitulation Hitler-Deutschlands ist historisch zu deuten als "Tag der Befreiung". Nur gelegentlich fällt heute noch ein deutscher Politiker aus der Rolle und spricht, wenn es um das Frühjahr 1945 und das Ende des "Dritten Reiches" geht, von "Niederlage" oder "Zusammenbruch". Volkstümlicher freilich ist, wie der Erfolg des gleichnamigen Filmes zeigt, der Begriff vom "Untergang"; er lässt vielerlei Gefühlsregungen zu, auch raunendes Bedauern.
