On the Outside Looking In: Colliding with Apartheid and other Authorities
The Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Federation (ZACF) of southern Africa is proud to present an online version of Alan Lipman's autobiography.
Now 80, Alan was a Communist Party of South Africa (CPSA) veteran who along with his wife Beata was involved with the drawing up of the Freedom Charter in 1955, the key pro-democratic document of its age which demanded a non-racial future for all South Africans.
But, disillusioned by the USSR's imperialist invasion of Hungary in 1956, he left the CPSA, becoming involved in guerrilla activities against the inclusion of black women in the racist pass law system.
He and Beata then went into into exile in Britain, getting involved with the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Alan finally moved in the logical direction of anarchism. He and Beata now live in South Africa where Alan has started contributing to ZACF workshops in poor townships, where his message is well-received. His autobiography is now available in text format at:
