north america / mexico / anti-fascism / press release Wednesday August 16, 2017 - 08:09 by General Defense Committee (GDC)   image 1 image
We are horrified but not surprised at the rise of political violence and murder from the Alt Right and other fascist groups across the country. Today's murder was not an isolated incident, but is the latest in a string of violent attacks and murders from fascists. These include the shooting of an IWW/GDC member in Seattle, the stabbing double murder on the Portland MAX train, and the recent bombing of Dar Al Farooq mosque in Minnesota, among many others. southern africa / repression / prisoners / press release Wednesday July 26, 2017 - 04:50 by Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Front   image 1 image
In February 2015, four community activists from Boiketlong in the Vaal, south of Johannesburg, were sentenced to 16 years in prison each following a community protest. This is a very severe sentence and the conviction was based on shaky evidence. The ‘Boiketlong Four’ were arrested for allegedly attacking the local ANC ward councillor and setting fire to her shack and two cars during a community protest. They were convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, arson and malicious injury to property. This is an example of a terrible injustice perpetrated against black working class activists and could have dangerous repercussions for future struggles of the black working class and poor in South Africa if it is not fought. People need to be aware of the facts and take action to demand justice and to fight the criminalisation of poverty and protest.

Every year in either Dublin or Belfast the pro and anti choice movements come head to head around the so called ‘Rally for Life’. This year it was Dublin’s unwilling role to play host to the bigot parade. It mattered more years than many as a referendum on the hated 8th Amendment that bans abortion is promised for next year. It could be that the next Dublin bigot parade scheduled for 2019 will come after they have suffered a major defeat. ... read full story / add a comment

Six men were on trial accused of falsely imprisoning the then Tanáiste (deputy Prime Minister) and Labour Party TD, Joan Burton, and her colleague in Jobstown, a working class suburb of Dublin, on 15 November 2014. The charge of false imprisonment carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. All six men claimed that they were exercising their right to protest, and that the protest was peaceful. This was part of a mass campaign that successfully defeated the attempt to introduce water charges. Following a nine week trial, the six have been found not guilty. ... read full story / add a comment

This Thursday 15/6, the greek “leftist” government is going to receive in Thessaloniki the prime minister of Israel B. Netanyahu for the tripartite meeting among Greece, Israel and Cyprus. During their last such meeting, in November 2015, Alexis Tsipras described the occupied city of Jerusalem as the “historic capital” of Israel, thus legitimizing the atrocities of the Israeli occupation forces. Even though minors are shot by the Israeli occupying forces on a daily basis and they are left to die on the streets of Gaza and the West Bank, while 6,500 political prisoners (including 300 minors) are detained in Israeli prisons without any formal accusations, A. Tsipras is unrolling the red carpet for the Zionist slaughterers. ... read full story / add a comment

The focus on the Israel-Palestine one apartheid state is more and more in the world media. The fear of Europe - mainly from the extreme Muslim terror, combined with the B.D.S. movement, increase the pressure on Israel. Even US call for at least partial retreat from 1967 conquest of the remaining Palestinian region. The sham excuse Israel will retreat only with final peace agreement in which the Palestinians renounce the right of return of the 1948 refugees is exposed when even the Hamas agree on 1967 borders. Frustrated from the Palestinian Authority yielding to the Israeli needs the Fatah opposition initiated the prisoners hunger strike of 1700 inmates which may ignite a mass revolt of the Palestinians of the west bank. Meanwhile, the harassment of the non-armed joint struggle of grass root village activists and the Israeli anarchists against the wall, that was a bit dormant seems to be ignited again marked with the use live ammunition in Nabi Saleh (taking advantage of the absent of Israelis). ... read full story / add a comment

On May Day we commemorate the past, but we also look to the future. There is no reason to be confident in capitalist economic recovery. There are many reasons to struggle against the horrors of oppression, unemployment, environmental devastation and war that capitalism dishes up. Workers can solve these problems for good. We can make a revolution and, as we do, the mass democratic workers' organisations we create will be the basis of the new society, worldwide. In this new society, each will contribute according to their ability and each receive according to their need. We will have no need of a State apparatus to enforce the dictates of a privileged elite. We will live a life of peace, freedom and equality. We have nothing to lose but our chains. ... read full story / add a comment

War is integral to imperialism. We can't end war without ending imperialism and we can't end imperialism without ending capitalism, because imperialism is not merely a policy, but the set of international relationships in capitalism for over 100 years now. We don't have to send young men and women overseas to kill brown people and we don't have to allow a US base at Pine Gap to guide both nuclear missiles and drones. To change direction, though, means eliminating the capitalist system that brings us these horrors. The working class needs to unite internationally and make a revolution to abolish it. We need to replace capitalism with the only possible alternative – libertarian communism. ... read full story / add a comment
southern africa / anti-fascism / press release Wednesday April 12, 2017 - 01:52 by Lucien van der Walt
On 11 February 2016, I issued an initial personal statement on the Michael Schmidt affair.[1] I completely rejected the irredeemable racist and right-wing statements attributed to Schmidt, which were mainly posted under false names online. They represent positions I have consistently opposed, for decades, to the best of my abilities. I noted problems with his explanation, centred on the claim that his posts and false personas were solely means for infiltrating the radical right for undercover research. I raised serious ethical problems with his actions, including his admitted role in repeatedly frustrating earlier investigations into his actions by myself and others. I also laid out my emotional turmoil over the affair, the gulf between the Schmidt I knew and trusted, a man active in left and black working class circles, and another Schmidt, increasingly exposed. ... read full story / add a comment

Inter city bus workers in Ireland launched widespread secondary pickets at 4am this morning. Solidarity from transport workers at the other services picketed meant that most of the country ground to a halt as morning rush hour approached, almost all trains, Dublin bus and light rail services did not operate. The action is a clear demonstration of the power transport workers hold because of their position in economies. ... read full story / add a comment

International Womens Day in Ireland saw thousands take to the streets in a sequence of 'in work time' protests under the heading 'Strike4Repeal'. Abortion is illegal in almost all circumstances and the protests were an attempt by pro-choice activists to forced the government to stop delaying a referendum to repeal the anti-choice 8th Amendment placed in the Irish constitution in 1983. Workers Solidarity Movement members took part in organising the day and in the aftermath produced a number of articles and videos detailing what happened. ... read full story / add a comment

The arrest on the 11th of March occurred outside the migrant housing squat (Alkiviadou) which was evicted by the police just two days later. The police still arrested these four comrades even after they were informed that the group was acting in defence of neighbourhood squats, thus the arrest was explicitly political. The Police are thus responsible for making squats more vulnerable to fascist attacks, which is in line with the state strategy to destroy self-organized migrant housing communities. ... read full story / add a comment

Regional change and new Israeli war minister who is clearly against annexation of additional of parts of Palestine (and even for cutting parts annexed 1948) resulted in the diminishing of the suppression of the non armed popular struggle. For months the Israeli forces diminished the harassment of the Friday demos of villages activists and the Israeli anarchists against the wall. In bil'in they nearly stopped entirely any shooting of tear gas and bullets, seldom tried to stop us from approaching the separation wall... The participants of the big demo of the 12th year celebration could not see even one soldier till the end of the demo when kids forced open the gate of the wall and resulted in a mildest ever response. The failure of the big plan of US to subvert the countries of the region as it exported terror (Al Quida, Daesh and Shieh advances) forced it to compromises with Iran, Rojave, (and probably with Syrian Assad, Russia and the Palestinians). ... read full story / add a comment
