In the face of perception management, WikiLeaks is information sabotage; disrupting the control that state and corporate bodies exert over information.

The institutions and organisations that shape and misshape the world are rarely interested in transparency, and journalism’s decline has been a boon for the powerful. They have their ‘information warriors’, but WikiLeaks can make us all into information guerillas.

If we want to understand our world better, if we want to manage our own perception, we should support WikiLeaks, we should support whistleblowers, and we should find ways to make journalism work for the people, not for power.

In recent days we have seen an escalation in tension betwen the two Koreas which is being presented by Western countries as an intolerable aggression on the part of the dictatorial, bellicose northern State against their democratic, peaceful neighbours. We think it might be interesting to present to our readers a text from our regular contributor Wayne Price, as a way to better understand the current situation and the reasons behind today's divided Korea.

At this stage we would support a mediated solution which sees the Korean people themselves, on both sides of the border, as main players, with no external interference or decisions made behind their backs. Such a solution would be the only way to open the door to a united, socialist, democratic and free Korea and guarantee, in this way, a sustainable peace with social justice.

Declaración del Colectivo La Libertad que nos llega desde Costa Rica relativa a la creciente militarización del área Centro América-Caribe, la creciente represión al movimiento popular y a cualquier forma de protesta social y su posición ante la autorización para el estacionamiento de miles de marines yanquis en territorio de Costa Rica. Solidaridad y Fuerza.

Desde inicios de julio de este año, trabajadoras y trabajadores bananeros, campesinos e indígenas de la provincia de Changuinola en Bocas de Toro (Panamá), permanecían en huelga en defensa de derechos laborales básicos amenazados por las llamadas Ley Chorizo y Ley Carcelazo aprobadas por el gobierno derechista y militarista de Martinelli.

Más de 4000 trabajadores afiliados a la Confederación de Trabajadores de la República de Panamá y 700 trabajadores de Convergencia Sindical, se manifestaban el 8 de julio repudiando la eliminación del derecho a huelga, la restricción de la libertad sindical, la penalización con cárcel de la protesta y la eliminación de las cuotas sindicales, cuando fueron brutalmente reprimidos por fuerzas policiales que luego del garrote y la violencia dejaron un saldo de 7 personas muertas, más de 100 hospitalizadas y cerca de 30 detenidas.

How can we understand the American presence in Costa Rica? The USA is in fact in the process of militarizing the whole Caribbean area, something which is crucial to the process of rebuilding America's dog-eared hegemony in Latin America. Indeed, this has been one of the key policy objectives of the Obama administration.

On 1st July, the parliament of Costa Rica approved a US request for permission to station between 7,000 and 13,000 US troops (the precise number is still uncertain) on its territory. The troops will arrive in 46 warships. This request, backed by Laura Chinchilla's government and the parties who support her, would be covered under the Security Section of the Free Trade Agreement between Costa Rica and the USA which was signed despite significant popular resistance after a rigged referendum in 2007. The excuse being given to justify this extraordinary presence of US troops is the fight against drug trafficking, a sort of catch-all expression normally used throughout the region to justify any outrage against the local population or any interference that Washington feels the need to indulge in. But is drugs really the issue at stake?
