It is becoming increasingly evident that governance of the Occupied Territories is assuming permanent form. Israel’s regime is becoming established as apartheid.

One legal system for Israeli citizens, based on the ‘Jewish and democratic’ version of Knesset legislation (incorporating discriminatory laws applied to Arab citizens, land expropriation, dispossession, restrictive measures such as delays in approving construction plans, deprivation in resource allocation, etc.); and another legal system – military rule – for the Palestinian population in the Occupied Territories, without any pretence of democratic rule.

Depuis le week end dernier l’armée israélienne a amorcé une nouvelle attaque meurtrière contre la bande de Gaza, suite à l’attaque d’une Jeep de l’armée israélienne par des groupes de résistance armée palestiniens. Sous prétexte de s’en prendre à des «terroristes», les bombardements touchent en réalité pour l’essentiel des civil-es, y compris des enfants.

C’est bien à l’Etat d’Israël que revient la responsabilité de ce nouveau carnage. C’est lui qui par sa persistance à refuser aux Palestinien-nes la satisfaction de leurs droits les plus élémentaires, à les empêcher de vivre dignement, à maintenir un véritable état d’apartheid et à réprimer dans le sang la résistance que ces injustices occasionnent, maintient la Palestine dans un état de guerre perpétuelle...

Les tambours de la guerre sonnent à nouveau au Moyen Orient. On assiste à une offensive concertée d’Israël, des États-Unis, de la France et du Royaume Uni contre l’Iran. Commencée il y a quelques semaines en Israël par un débat public sur la nécessité d’attaquer l’Iran avant qu’il se dote de l’arme nucléaire, la campagne a été relayée lors du G 20 à Nice par Obama et Sarkozy appelant à mettre une pression sans précédent sur l’Iran, et par des fuites dans la presse britannique faisant état de préparatifs de guerre du côté des USA et de la Grande Bretagne.

In the first demo, two weeks ago, about 30,000 participated in Tel Aviv; in the second, last week, there were nearly 100,000 in Tel Aviv and about 40,000 in the rest of the country. In the third, this Saturday, there were about 250,000 in Tel Aviv - the largest ever in Israel, and about 70,000 all over the country. Who knows how many will come for next Saturday's demos. The call "Revolution!" was second only to "Social justice!"

The main demands are: free education from the age of 3 months, a reduction of sales taxes and an increase in the direct taxes that the rich pay; the provision of low-cost housing to buy and rent by stopping State and municipal speculation on public land and by building small apartments and public housing; an overhaul of the public health system which the doctors' union has been demanding for several months; a stop to the precarization of workers using manpower companies; and the recruitment of 500 inspectors to enforce employer legislation regulating work - especially with regard to minimum wages.
