Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, was arrested on 11 April when the Ecuadorian Government invited British police into their London embassy for that purpose. Initially charged with breaching bail, he was quickly also hit with a US charge of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion. He has since been sentenced to almost the maximum term for breaching bail and the process for extraditing him to the United States, which could be a long one, has begun.

The United States wants Assange because Wikileaks stands against the entire apparatus of national security in that country and has published much damaging information about its murderous and undemocratic activities – not least the Collateral Murder video that made Wikileaks famous. Wikileaks is so dangerous to the reputation of the CIA, the US military, State Department, the FBI, the major political parties and so many other components of the State in the US that the capitalist class want that organisation shut down for good and for Assange to be made an example of to deter potential successors. Accordinly, though the charge on which Assange has been arrested is one that has a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, it should be expected that other, heavier charges are in the works.

In publishing the crimes of Uncle Sam, Julian Assange performed a great service for the working class and the oppressed peoples of the world and on that basis he must be defended against US attempts to seek retribution against him. He is, however, no saint. Firstly, he is accused of sexual assault in Sweden. While it is clear from published facts that Assange’s sexual ethics are poor, the Melbourne Anarchist Communist Group is unsure whether his actions amount to a breach of Swedish law. Accordingly, we believe that he should go to Sweden to deal with the accusations and clear his name or face the consequences.

Secondly, Assange’s tactics during the US election campaign of 2016 and his political statements since are quite unsavoury, while some of the political associates he has been cultivating during his time as a fugitive in the Ecuadorian Embassy have been extremely dangerous. We therefore believe that, once he is out of the clutches of the United States, his future activities should be watched with great care until he can explain himself as a free agent.

Ομονοίας, ας «ξεβρομίσει» από όσους εμπειρογνώμονες τους συγκαλύπτουν πιστοποιώντας πλαστές αιτίες θανάτου κρατουμένων του Α.Τ. Ομόνοιας.

Α.Τ. Ομόνοιας: Όπως λέμε υπερβάλων ζήλος για χάρη της ομοιογένειας

Στις αρχές Φεβρουαρίου ο Εμπουκά από τη Νιγηρία πεθαίνει κάτω από αδιευκρίνιστες ακόμα συνθήκες στα χέρια μπάτσων που υπηρετούν στο Α.Τ. Ομόνοιας. Η σύντροφός του και μητέρα των 2 ανήλικων παιδιών του τον αναζήτησε από την πρώτη στιγμή, μιας και οι προσαγωγές για εξακρίβωση στοιχείων είναι μέρος της καθημερινότητας πολλών μεταναστών. --- Ωστόσο αν και γνώριζαν από την πρώτη στιγμή τι είχε συμβεί στο σύντροφό της, την παρέπεμψαν στο Α.Τ. Κυψέλης και από εκεί πάλι πίσω στην Ομόνοια, όπου την συμβούλεψαν να υποβάλλει δήλωση εξαφάνισης. --- Αν δεν είχε μεσολαβήσει δικηγόρος η γυναίκα πολύ πιθανόν να μην μάθαινε ποτέ που βρίσκεται. --- Πολύ πιθανόν να παρέμενε η σωρός του σε ένα νεκροτομείο ως άνδρας αγνώστων στοιχείων. --- Δεν έχουν περάσει έξι μήνες από τη δολοφονία Κωστόπουλου και η αστυνομική βία φτάνει στο αποκορύφωμά της. --- Η χρήση χημικών στην πορεία για δικαίωση στον Εμπουκά δεν είναι αρκετή για να φιμώσει τις φωνές που ζητούν διαφάνεια, που ζητούν να οριστεί εμπειρογνώμονας επιλεγμένος από την ίδια την οικογένεια του μετανάστη.

Οι όχι και τόσο «τυχαίοι» θάνατοι στο Α.Τ. Ομονοίας δεν παραξένεψαν ούτε το Υπ.Προ.Πο, ούτε τα ΜΜΕ, ούτε τα ειδησιογραφικά πρακτορεία, δεν έγιναν πρωτοσέλιδα, ούτε αφιερώματα σε εκπομπές υψηλής τηλεθέασης. Ας μην συνηθίσουμε στο θάνατο γύρω μας γιατί η αποκτήνωση και ο κοινωνικός κανιβαλισμός δεν θα αργήσουν να εξαπλώσουν τη σήψη του συστήματος ακόμα και στα φαινομενικά πιο υγιή κομμάτια τούτης της κοινωνίας.

Αυτοί οι θάνατοι είναι από το σώμα της τάξης μας, τα φερόμενα ως σώματα «ασφαλείας» και προστασίας του πολίτη, επικαλούμενα την δημόσια «τάξη» και «ασφάλεια» εξουδετερώνουν ανενόχλητοι και χωρίς επιπτώσεις , όσους , όσες, όσ@ δεν πληρούν τις προϋποθέσεις συμβατότητας με την κανονικότητα που έχουν ορίσει. Η Ομόνοια ανήκει στους κατοίκους της Αθήνας ανεξαρτήτως φυλής, φύλου, σεξουαλικού προσανατολισμού, καταγωγής, θρησκείας, εθνικότητας.

Very few South Africans are aware that currently in the north and eastern parts of Syria (Rojava) a revolution as progressive, profound and potentially as far reaching as any in history is taking place. There, an alternative system to the state, capitalism and patriarchy is being built and it holds the potential to inspire the struggle for a better, more egalitarian Middle East and indeed world.

Since 2012, when the Syrian state in the area collapsed, people in Rojava – Kurds, Turks and Arabs – have established a federation of communes and councils, based on direct democracy, to run society without a hierarchical and patriarchal state. In the process a genuine democratic form of people’s power has been created, in which women play a key role. On the economic front, they have been attempting to replace capitalism with a communal economy. At the heart of this experiment are worker self-managed co-operatives that produce not for profits, but to meet people’s needs. These co-operatives are in fact accountable to everyone in Rojava through the federated communes and councils.

Over the course of almost 7 years, the people of Rojava – mainly through democratic militia – have fought off the many dangers that have been posed to the Revolution, which have included the forces of the Syrian state,the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the Turkish state.

The experiments in Rojava have been heavily influenced by the vision of Democratic Confederalism, which has a central role in the Kurdish national liberation struggle in Syria, Iran, Turkey and Iraq. The first person to outline the vision of Democratic Confederalism – a form of libertarian socialism – in the early 2000s was one of the key leaders in the Kurdish national liberation struggle, Abdullah Ocalan.

For almost 20 years, Ocalan has been imprisoned by the Turkish state on the island prison of Imrali. The Turkish state imprisoned Ocalan for his role in the Kurdish freedom struggle and as the leader of the Kurdish Workers’ Party – which the Turkish state claims is a terrorist organisation. In this regard, it must be noted that the Turkish state has, over the last several decades: engaged in systemic ethnic discrimination and cleansing against Kurdish citizens of Turkey; used its military and intelligence forces to harass, jail and kill thousands of Kurdish people living in the south of Turkey and in the process, razed over 3 000 Kurdish towns to the ground; and, regularly launched military operations in northern Iraq and Syria targeting Kurdish liberation forces and civilians.

For 10 years Ocalan was the only inmate on the island. Under the neo-fascist regime of Erdogan, Ocalan has been kept in total isolation since April 2015 and has been denied any visitations, including by family members and lawyers. Since late 2018, hundreds of people involved in the Kurdish national liberation struggle have been on a hunger strike demanding an end to the isolation of Ocalan.

In January 2019, the Turkish state also began to make plans for the invasion of northern Syria to end the Rojava Revolution. The Turkish state fears the Rojava Revolution will spread into Turkey itself and they do not want an experiment in direct democracy, feminism, ecology, anti-statism, and anti—capitalism to succeed. Already in 2018, the Turkish state invaded part of Rojava, Afrin, and are now unleashing plans to invade the rest of north and eastern Syria. These plans have been condemned by the peoples of the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria (as Rojava is now known) and they have called for a genuine international peacekeeping force to be deployed to prevent the invasion.

As the International Labour Research and Information Group (ILRIG) we support the Rojava Revolution, including its goals of creating a feminist, anti-capitalist and stateless society. We offer solidarity to the comrades involved in the current hunger strike and support their calls for the Turkish state to end the isolation of Abdullah Ocalan. We stand with the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria and oppose any invasion, including the current threat by the Turkish state to undertake military actions against the Rojava Revolution. Furthermore, we call on other progressive movements in South Africa to support the Rojava Revolution and the associated struggles for Kurdish national liberation, and for the South African Government to recognise the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria and its right to be free from the threat of invasion from any aggressive state forces.

La manifestazione del 16 febbraio a Roma: un appello per la liberazione di tutti i prigionieri politici in Turchia e per la difesa dell'esperienza rivoluzionaria in Rojava

16 FEBBRAIO: LIBERARE TUTTI!

Venti anni or sono Ocalan veniva rapito in Kenia e rinchiuso nell'isola-carcere di Imrali (non vi ricorda Robben Island ?). Grazie anche alla dabbenaggine di Massimo D'Alema e Fausto Bertinotti che prima gli avevano garantito l'asilo politico – successivamente concesso, ma dopo che ormai era stato sequestrato – per poi cacciarlo fuori dall'Italia (su richiesta si presume di Clinton) consegnandolo di fatto ai suoi aguzzini.

Dal 2011 al leader curdo viene negata la possibilità di incontrare i suoi avvocati e dal 2015 versa in un isolamento pressoché totale.

Recentemente gli è stato concesso un brevissimo incontro di pochi minuti con il fratello a seguito delle proteste di centinaia di prigionieri politici in sciopero della fame (e in particolare della deputata di HDP Leyla Guven).

Perché tanta ferocia nei suoi confronti?

Perché un prigioniero suscita ancora tanta paura?

Evidentemente (così come avvenne con Antonio Gramsci, Nelson Mandela, George Jackson, Patsy O'Hara, Bobby Sands... ) nemmeno le dure condizioni carcerarie hanno potuto ”impedire al suo cervello di funzionare” (per citare quanto Mussolini auspicava per l'esponente comunista rinchiuso nella prigione di Turi).

Screditare Ocalan, impedirgli di interagire con il suo popolo, svalorizzare quanto ha saputo elaborare – i principi teorici del Confederalismo democratico alla base della rivoluzione in Rojava - nella prospettiva di una risoluzione politica dei conflitti mediorientali (in primis, quello tra il popolo curdo e lo stato turco)...

Questo lo scopo – neanche tanto malcelato – della dura, repressiva politica carceraria adottata nei suoi confronti.

Nel nord della Siria gli scritti di Ocalan hanno fornito le basi teoriche e pratiche sia per la resistenza alle aggressioni dello Stato islamico, sia per la costruzione di un esperimento sociale di natura libertaria, inter-etnico, basato sulla parità di genere, laico ed egualitario.

Una speranza per le popolazioni del Medio Oriente (e non solo), ma anche una potenziale minaccia per i regimi autoritari, sessisti, razzisti (nei confronti delle minoranze, sia etniche che religiose), talvolta apertamente integralisti. Con una mai sopita vocazione al genocidio e all'etnocidio.

Regimi a cui rivolgere l'epiteto di nazi-fascistoidi non sembra proprio una esagerazione.

Non è un caso che in questi ultimi anni la repressione

si sia inasprita, sia in Turchia che in Iran (tanto per citarne un paio di stati autoritari). In Turchia il numero dei prigionieri politici (sia curdi che turchi, militanti della sinistra democratica e rivoluzionaria) ha raggiunto e superato quota 260mila. Molti di loro vengono sottoposti ad angherie, maltrattamenti, torture. E sempre più si diffonde la pratica dell'isolamento e della deprivazione.

Ma la violenza statale non si esercita solamente nei confronti delle popolazioni più o meno indocili, non rassegnate e non addomesticate (come appunto i curdi o i palestinesi).

Si scatena anche nei confronti di Madre Terra, delle foreste (vedi gli incendi devastanti nel Bakur provocati dai militari turchi), della fauna e delle acque. Emblematico il sequestro (come definirlo altrimenti?) del Tigri e dell'Eufrate – autentico “patrimonio dell'Umanità” - irregimentati con una miriade di dighe causando la sommersione di insostituibili tesori archeologici (vedi Hasankyef). Per non parlare delle catastrofi umanitarie come quella innescata dalle devastanti operazioni dell'esercito turco nella città di Afrin.

Per porre un confine a tutto questo, alla morte elargita a piene mani da dittatori, autocrati e fanatici in armi, la richiesta di scarcerazione per Ocalan e per tutti i prigionieri politici rimane un passo fondamentale, ineludibile. Il potenziale ruolo di Ocalan è sicuramente paragonabile a quello svolto a suo tempo da Nelson Mandela. Con la medesima autorevolezza, il leader curdo potrebbe traghettare (o meglio: dovrebbe poter traghettare) sulle sponde di un sistema autenticamente democratico le martoriate popolazioni ancora sottoposte a inique, ingiuste e inutili sofferenze.

Il suo contributo è necessario, indispensabile, insostituibile.

Anche per questo è fondamentale partecipare massicciamente alla Manifestazione nazionale del 16 febbraio 2019 a Roma (ore 14, Piazza della Repubblica).

Atentado a Alfamir Castillo: La impune maquinaria del sicariato contra los dirigentes populares

El 11 de Enero, Alfamir Castillo, una emblemática luchadora popular del Valle del Cauca, fue víctima de un cobarde atentado mientras se desplazaba con su marido en la carretera de Pradera a Palmira. Hay que mencionar que esta carretera está altamente militarizada y tiene presencia policial permanente.

Alfamir Castillo ha vivido con un dolor muy grande: su hijo, Darbey Mosquera Castillo, fue asesinado por el Batallón de Contra Guerrilla No. 57 "Mártires de Puerres" del Ejército Nacional en Febrero del 2008, en una vereda de Caldas, donde al muchacho le habían ofrecido trabajo. Luego lo hicieron pasar por guerrillero muerto en combate, en el infame caso de los “falsos positivos”, cuando el “presidente de la paz”, Juan Manuel Santos, era ministro de defensa. Ese fue el asesinato sistemático de muchachos de escasos recursos, secuestrados por el ejército después de prometerles trabajo, para ser asesinados y presentados como guerrilleros muertos en combate, a fin de que la soldadesca y los oficiales pudieran cobrar beneficios económicos, ser promovidos en la jerarquía castrense y obtener vacaciones, beneficios que les garantizaba el “pacificador” Santos en su política de conteo de cabezas. Estos no fueron casos aislados: la investigación “Ejecuciones extrajudiciales en Colombia 2002–2010: Obediencia ciega en campos de batalla ficticios” (2017), escrita por el ex policía y sociólogo Omar Eduardo Rojas y Fabián Benavides, presenta evidencia de que hubo más de 10.000 casos. Esto fue un genocidio sin proporciones en la historia colombiana, y las denuncias de que la práctica no han cesado siguen en pie.

Alfamir Castillo, sin embargo, no es una mera víctima. Es una luchadora popular excepcional que ha convertido el dolor ocasionado por el cobarde asesinato de su hijo, en ternura para todos los oprimidos. En cada movilización, ahí está ella. Patiana de nacimiento, de un pueblo cerca del Bordo, ha vivido muchos años en Pradera, Valle, junto a su marido, un cortero de caña que está lisiado, aquejado por enfermedades ocupacionales derivadas del corte, en una batalla legal contra los ingenios para que le reconozcan la afectación que ha sufrido y lo compensen. Cuando el paro de los corteros en el 2008, allá estuvo ella, organizando el Comité de Mujeres Corteras de Caña para apoyar a sus esposos en esa lucha contra el Goliat azucarero. Su liderazgo fue clave para mantener la movilización de los corteros, un punto de inflexión en la historia reciente de las luchas populares. En esas correrías fue que la conocí, y aprendí a admirarla y apreciarla. El atrevimiento de enfrentarse a los zares del azúcar, a los Caicedo, a los Ardilla Lulle, los Cabal, los Eder, les ha costado caro a los corteros: la mayoría de quienes lideraron ese paro, han debido enfrentar agresiones, atentados y el desempleo.

Alfamir no ha estado al margen de esta situación. Varias veces ha tenido que salir desplazada de Pradera por amenazas en su contra. En el 2012, incluso, recibió el “beneficio” de medidas cautelares por parte de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH) [1], pero no pasa nada. En Cali, desplazada, la atacaron una vez con una jeringa. Otras veces le han apuntado con pistolas. Ahora la cosa fue a tiros. Tres tiros en contra de la camioneta en que se desplazaba, ninguno de los cuales la alcanzó, afortunadamente. Ese día había recibido dos amenazas, en las que le decían, “no creas que estamos jugando. No creas que estamos mintiendo la muerte te ronda y tú no lo crees, ni tus escoltas van a poder salvarte vieja h.p. todo lo que nos ha pasado te lo vamos a cobrar… muere… muere… muere…” y “esto es un ultimátum vieja h.p. ya sabemos todo y tienes miedo pero ni por mil esquemas de seguridad te vas a salvar de nosotros, tu insolencia a mi comandante la vas a pagar con sangre y la salida de nuestros hombres son nuestra mejor arma…muere… muere… muere” [2]. Tu insolencia a “mi” comandante… más claro echarle agua.

Estuviera esto pasando en Venezuela, ya habría escándalo internacional, y los representantes colombianos, con espuma en la boca, estarían pidiendo sanciones en la OEA y la ONU. Pero como es Colombia, todo pasa de agache porque el asesinato de dirigentes sociales se ha vuelto un deporte: casi 300 líderes sociales asesinados desde la firma del acuerdo de paz el 24 de Noviembre del 2016. Es decir, en poco más de dos años. Asesinatos selectivos, la mayoría después de amenazas, los cuales buscan descabezar las organizaciones sociales. Un auténtico socialicidio, como lo he llamado en ocasiones anteriores [3]. Ante quienes plantean que “el conflicto es muy complejo para saber de dónde vienen los tiros”, que pueden ser muchos sospechosos, etc. recientemente, la Universidad del Rosario ha publicado una sistemática investigación en la cual demuestran: uno, que la mayoría de los asesinados es por disputas de tierra y que la mayoría de los asesinos son bandas paramilitares, las milicias privadas de ganaderos y terratenientes [4]. El mismo estudio abofetea al manoseado argumento, repetido por la socialbacanería hasta el cansancio antes del acuerdo de paz, de que “una vez acabadas las FARC-EP se le acabaría a la oligarquía la excusa para matar y se tendrían que volver demócratas”, demuestra que en las zonas donde existía las FARC-EP y éstas se desmovilizaron, es donde se concentra la mayor parte de los crímenes recientes.

Acá están claros los móviles de los asesinatos y los sectores sociales detrás de ellos: lo que no hay es voluntad política para coger al toro por las astas. Contrasta la ineficacia para encontrar a los responsables materiales e intelectuales de los crímenes en contra de las organizaciones populares, y dirigentes sociales y de izquierda, con la asombrosa eficiencia demostrada por la policía para capturar y encerrar en la cárcel (¡en menos de 24 horas!) a un pobre muchacho que, de broma, comentó en Facebook que asesinaría a uno de los hijos de Uribe Vélez: sin ninguna intención de realizar el crimen, sin organización detrás, sin ningún arma, pasó varios meses en la cárcel mientras la Fiscalía pedía 15 años de cárcel [5] … por un comentario pendejo en las redes sociales. Pero a los líderes sociales se les estigmatiza por los medios, se les señala con el dedo, se les amenaza, se les asesina y nada. No pasa nada.

El grado de podredumbre del régimen colombiano alcanza niveles realmente sórdidos… en las raras ocasiones en que la justicia medio afecta, así sea tibiamente, a sectores poderosos de la sociedad, inmediatamente comienza a moverse una maquinaria macabra que intimida y asesina a potenciales testigos en contra de sus “patrones”. El caso Odebrecht, que salpica a Uribe, a Santos y a todos los círculos del poder, ya ha tenido tres testigos claves del proceso muertos en extrañas circunstancias: José Pizano, su hijo Alejandro Pizano (ambos envenenados con cianuro) y Rafael Merchán, ex secretario de transparencia de Santos, que apareció muerto en un aparente suicidio. Ahora, el tema de los falsos positivos ha entrado a la Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz (JEP), aun cuando esto debería ser materia de las cortes comunes y corrientes porque es un crimen que no puede justificarse de ningún modo en el marco del enfrentamiento del Estado con las FARC-EP. Gracias al proceso de paz, y al abuso que se está haciendo de la JEP, los militares que tanto esfuerzo habían sido castigados por los “falsos positivos” están saliendo de las cárceles. Pero así las cosas, este tribunal, sin dientes, es inaceptable para los altos estamentos castrenses porque en la JEP se sabrá que este no fue un tema de “manzanas podridas” entre los bajos y medios mandos. La JEP, hecha a la medida de la clase dominante, siendo muy difícil que ningún miembro del Estado reciba condena alguna, careciendo de dientes ante los poderosos, pero potencialmente con afilados colmillos para los exrebeldes, es demasiado para una oligarquía acostumbrada a la impunidad absoluta.

El general Mario Montoya hoy enfrenta cargos por los falsos positivos, y ya comienzan a llover amenazas y tiros contra los testigos. El abogado de Alfamir señala que “la JEP, pese a que en noviembre del año pasado se le solicitó estudiar la concesión de medidas cautelares, no ha hecho absolutamente nada, ha dejado abandonada a doña Alfamir (…). Creemos que existe un desprecio por parte de la JEP hacia las víctimas de ejecuciones extrajudiciales, como se vio en las audiencias de septiembre y octubre del año pasado” [6]. Por si queda dudas de qué círculo provienen las amenazas y las agresiones en contra de Alfamir, en Octubre, ella participó en una de las audiencias contra Montoya por el tema de los “falsos positivos”; ese mismo día la amenazaron y le dijeron que no se volviera a aparecer por las audiencias [7].

Si Alfamir, una mujer de una valentía realmente admirable, recibe este golpe… ¿quién se va a atrever a levantar el dedo contra Montoya? Si poderosos testigos del caso Odebrecht están muriendo, ¿qué misericordia de la máquina sicarial puede esperar una mujer negra, esposa de cortero, una mujer pobre como Alfamir? El sistema ha mostrado una crueldad espeluznante hacia Alfamir y su familia: asesinándole un hijo, amenazándola y atacándola constantemente, con los ricos del Valle negándole una miserable pensión a su marido. Negándoles sistemáticamente cualquier reparación, cualquier asomo de justicia. Pero ahí está pintado de cuerpo entero y sin afeites. Es increíble que después de tanto dolor, de tanta saña contra ella, no le hayan logrado silenciar ni amedrentar. Inmediatamente después del atentado su voz, esa voz que tanto han querido callar, volvió a hablar fuerte, claro, lozana, para decir lo que todos saben pero pocos se atreven a decir: “varios de los militares han salido en libertad por cuenta del Proceso de Paz y con nosotros, las víctimas, no sabemos qué va a pasar. ¿Cómo quedamos y dónde quedamos? La JEP no nos ha tenido en cuenta como víctimas porque nos ha expuso a esto, a que nos asesinen (…) ¿Esta es la realidad que está viviendo Colombia? (…) Uno se queda sin pensar. Hasta el momento no sé qué hacer, pero lo que sí sé es que hay que seguir visibilizando esta situación. No podemos permitir que esto siga pasando” [8]. Con la porfía de Antígona, Alfamir no descansará hasta que haya justicia. Y todos a quienes nos palpita el corazón por la justicia social, por la libertad, tenemos que rodearla para que siga en su lucha que es nuestra lucha.
