On the 27th of April 1994 the people of this country stood in long queues for many hours, waiting to cast their vote for the first time. In some parts of the country the weather was indeed hostile, freezing cold, while in other parts of the country it was scorching hot. Our people were voting for the first time, voting for an end to racism and for democracy and a better life - for jobs, free education and decent housing. Over and above their vote for their material needs to be met they were voting for their freedom. Or so they were made to believe! read full story / add a comment

The lives of the unemployed youth in Grahamstown may seem to be a world apart from those of the students. For us the only choices are to accept defeat and to sink into depression or to organise and fight for a place in this society. For you it seems that there is a clear path to a good life.

But capitalism is not a stable system. You may find yourself unemployed after you graduate. You may also find yourself sitting at home waiting for your life to begin. The courage and determination of the struggle during the apartheid must serve as an example to the oppressive regime of the Zuma administration that the more you suppress the people the more they resist. It is trough those struggle that we have the Zuma administration today and it is through the street protest and mass mobilization that we will topple this capitalist government and the tenderpreneurs that defend it in the language of the left. read full story / add a comment
