bolivia / peru / ecuador / chile / workplace struggles / press release Sunday January 26, 2014 23:45 by ideas & action   image 1 image
Chilean Port workers in 14 northern and southern ports have been on strike, at various times, since late December 2013. The strike wave began in the northern Port of Angamos to continue the ongoing fight to win a paid half hour lunch break for port workers, for the integration of temporary workers into the union, and for reforms to the dictatorship-era labor law. The strike then hit other ports, with additional union members striking in support of the original demands and against the police brutality used against the Port of Angamos strikers. Responding to that accusation, Melissa Sepúlveda, President of the University of Chile Student Federation (FECh), and herself an anarchist and militant of the Frente de Estudiantes Libertarios and La Alzada, Acción Feminista Libertaria has issued the following statement.

russia / ukraine / belarus / anti-fascism / press release Sunday January 26, 2014 23:19 by
The laws which were passed on January 16th showed that the faction of the ruling class which now controls the government is ready to install a reactionary bourgeois dictatorship on the model of the Latin American regimes of the 1970s. The "dictatorship laws" criminalize any protest and limit the freedom of speech; also, they establish responsibility for "extremism". [Русский] read full story / add a comment

Asheville Fm radio, based in western North Carolina, aired a fascinating interview with an anarcho-syndicalist named Denys, from the Autonomous Worker's Union in Ukraine. russia / ucraina / bielorussia / storia dell'anarchismo / opinione / analisi Sunday January 26, 2014 17:46 by Tokologo African Anarchist Collective   image 3 images
[English] read full story / add a comment

Just over a week ago, if you were thinking of cities in Spain most likely to host the start of a proletarian uprising, Burgos would have come pretty much at the bottom of the list. A sleepy, socially conservative, traditionally ultra-Catholic city in the Northern Castille plain, Burgos was up until now mostly known for its Cathedral and other mediaeval real estate and a local sausage uncannily reminiscent of Clonakilty black pudding. But since the initial clashes between police and protesters in the working class district of Gamonal on the night of Friday 10th January, Burgos has seen nights of continual rioting, a veritable military occupation by riot police, and solidarity demonstrations this week around 46 cities in Spain, including two successive nights of demos in the capital Madrid, resulting in clashes with the police, arrests and injuries. All this supposedly over a plan to redevelop the main road through Gamonal into a tree-lined Boulevard. read full story / add a comment

[English] read full story / add a comment
