Throughout the Zionist settler colonialist project in Palestine from time to time there have been waves of onslaught and, in between, periods of persistent pressure for expanding the areas colonized and transferring Palestinians from their lands... and persistent resistance (Tsumud) by the Palestinians. The last few weeks have been an in-between wave period of persistent pressure by Israel and persistent resistance (Tsumud) by the Palestinians. The joint struggle of the activists of the Anarchists Against the Wall initiative with the grassroots Palestinian activists over the last 8 years is part of the persistent resistance. The main focuses of resistance are still Araqeeb and the Bedouins (in Israel mainly), Beit Ummar, Bil'in, Ma'sara, Nabi Salih, Ni'lin, occupied East Jerusalem (Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah), Kafr Qaddum, South Hebron hills, Walaja. read full story / add a comment

WSM members & supporters in northern Ireland will be providing live coverage of the N30 Pension strikes today via our Twitter feed. The strike is part of the UK wide public sector strike against attacks on public sector pensions, attacks similar to those imposed on public sector workers in southern Ireland over the last couple of years. They are part of a Europe wide offensive against the pensions rights of workers. read full story / add a comment

Because of internal considerations, in parallel with the demolition of a minimal part of illegal settler colonialist buildings on private Palestinian lands, the demolition of Palestinian houses increases. Part of it is the confrontations of the joint struggle in the hills south of the Hebron region. Another part was this week's demolition of Bil'in outposts in the returned lands adjacent to the new route of the separation wall. Miraculously the older one, built nearly 7 years ago at the beginning of the struggle under cover of heavy rain, survived till this week. During the first few months we often spent nights near the fire at the adjacent shade - with members of the village committee, in order to protect the outpost from being destroyed by Israeli State forces. The usual weekend struggle continued - including the flag bearers, Beit Ummar, Bil,in, Ma'sara, Nabi Salih, Ni'lin, and occupied East Jerusalem. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Occupy Wall Street has taken the nation by storm. It has spread to nearly every major metropolitan area in the country, attracting hundreds of thousands to its confrontational, directly democratic structure. Since its inception earlier this year, protests have steadily become more militant – beginning with the occupations of public parks, and moving on to attempted general strikes and direct attacks on the banks. read full story / add a comment

A fine baptism for the new Monti government, and as had been widely forecast by any right-thinking person, FIAT has announced it is applying its new single contract - first introduced at the Pomigliano, Mirafiori and Grugliasco plants - in every part of its automobile sector (FIAT S.p.A.), to be shortly followed by its industrial sector (FIAT Industrial). Against the background of worldwide struggle for social justice, the encroachment of settler colonialism both in the villages and occupied Jerusalem advances. The weekend's joint demonstrations and the struggle within Israel for social justice and against fascism also advance. The peak of the struggle was in Tel Aviv this evening (Tuesday 22.11.11) where several thousand converged near the national theater. Within the demo we had a black block of anarchists and other radical activists simulating a grotesque fascist counter-demo. After long speeches and chanting we started a spontaneous march to the headquarters of the Likud ruling party. State forces just monitored us till some people threw a few eggs at the building, at which point they retaliated with a tear gas canister and arrested an activist. Another olive picking season is ending with its confrontations with settler colonialists slowly encroaching on adjacent lands of Palestinian villages. Accompanying villagers at the lands coveted by neighboring settler colonialists and the Israeli state continue - in addition to the regular weekend joint demonstrations. Anata, Beit Ummar, Bil'in, Ma'asara, Nabi Saleh, Ni'lin, Qaddum, Sheikh Jarrah, South of Hebron Hills, Walajah. Within Israel the Bedouins are in a much wider confrontation than Arakib. The Struggle for Social Justice is still fermenting even if not with the original intensity. The not predictable political storms of the winter that just begin are approaching. Anyone who has been active on the left and broader labour movement will have faced the 'million dollar question from republicans on the 'national question'. The question of opposition or indifference to the partition of the island is often thrown by republicans like a dagger in the direction of the existing left. In responnse many become either wedded to the romantic idea of the flag removing all our sins or face the jibe of being a ‘gas and water socialist’ or at worst a sop to unionism. It’s the type of choice you get at Stormont every four years where you get to choose between Coca Cola and Pepsi. Equally it’s the type of approach of the PSNI press statement that presents every ’dissenter’ from the status-quo as being wedded to physical force republicanism. But of course its much more complicated than this….

The sixty million payoff to prison officers in Northern Ireland could be much better spent on addressing the causes of crime such as poverty, social deprivation and prison rehabilitation. Prison officers who served during the Troubles could walk away from their jobs with packages of more than £120,000 plus pension as part of a £60m redundancy programme aimed at ‘modernising’ the service.

The settler colonialists intensify their assaults both in the occupied West Bank and within Israel. The olive-pickers are assaulted by settler colonialists with partial backing of State forces in spite of the participation of Israeli activists. International support for a Palestinian State alarms the settlers and their reprisals are channeled against the Palestinians. The social struggle against neoliberal capitalist piggery continues and the State tries to divert attention by intensifying terror in the Gaza Strip. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

It is sometimes said that while anti-capitalist and alternative globalization movements are clear on what we do not want, we are less clear on what we do want (socialism, anarchism, specifics). Certainly, recent movements have not been as effective as their predecessors (labor in the 1910s and ‘30s; the social movements of the ‘60s and ‘70s) in sustaining the sorts of practices – intellectual and material – that put into effect aspects of the alternative world we seek. My colleague Alan Sears attributes this current inability to a decline in what he calls “infrastructures of dissent” or what I prefer to call “infrastructures of resistance.” As anti-capitalist movements face possibilities of growth, as happened after Seattle in 1999, questions of organization and the relation of various activities to each other and to broader movements for social change can only become more urgent. Yet, the absence of durable organizations or institutions, formal or informal, rooted in working-class organizations and communities, makes for demoralization or a retreat into subculturalism, as has happened to many of the alternative globalization groups. We now face a pressing need to rebuild “infrastructures of resistance” that might sustain not only activists and organizers, but especially the poor and working-class people who are being disastrously impacted by the current crisis. read full story / add a comment
An Irish anarchist perspective on today's EU crisis summit decision to reduce Greek debt by 50%, in the face of the recent resistance by the Greek working class. Particularly as contrasted with the differing levels of resistence in Ireland and the corresponding dictat of making the people of Ireland pay 100% of the debts incurred in the Irish property boom casino by globalised finance. read full story / add a comment

The local struggle of the villages against the crawling occupation frustrate the striving of Israel to take over all the areas around the Palestinian towns and leaving the towns and cities as separated islands. The picking of the olive trees open many battle arenas where settler colonialists are encouraged by the Israeli state to expand the areas around them "clean of Palestinians". The anarchists against the wall and other radical Israelis share with the Palestinian partners some of the injuries inflicted by settlers while state forces prefer a neutral position. Anata was the bloody arena at the beginning of the month. In addition to the accompanying farmers to fields and olive trees we participated in the usual location of week end demonstrations: Beit Ummar, Bil'in, Ma'asara (where they celebrated the 5 year anniversary), Ni'ilin, and Qaddoum (which joined for persistent struggle 4 months ago).
