The slow-motion car crash that is the ongoing Eurozone crisis has hit yet another seizure point. The previous weekend’s French and Greek elections, Sunday’s German election in Nordrhein-Westfalen and the threat of a second Greek election next month, has raised the Eurozone stress levels back to panic levels. Hanging over the whole situation is the spectre of a death foretold - a funeral for the vision of the Euro as the party that no-one ever leaves. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

All over the West Bank thousands of people took to the streets in support of the hunger striking prisoners. The third intifada collected momentum. It started with hunger strike of administrative prisoners held without trail, with solidarity demos, and joined by 1500 Palestinian prisoners - both in solidarity with the administrative ones and in demand for improving condition of the incarcerated. There were demos and vigils of solidarity daily - both in the occupied territories and within Israel. The weekly demonstrations made it their central theme. After nearly 80 days for the two longest hunger strikers, it seems their death is imminent after the Israeli highest court of "justice" approved of the unyielding refusal of the state to retreat from their administrative jailing. State forces vacillate between harsh repression of demos and restraining - expression of their uncertainty of the evolving third Intifada and mounting international pressure. read full story / add a comment

The usual week end struggle of the anarchists against the wall with the grassroots popular committees was interwoven with the hunger strike of Palestinian administrative prisoners. After two strikers were released when their lives were in imminent danger, the hunger strike collected momentum in prison and out, as the few hundreds of administrative prisoners were joined by more than thousand of other Palestinian prisoners in Israeli concentration camps and prisons. Demonstrations occur daily and some of them within the 1948 borders of Israel. The Israeli state intensify the repression of both the prisoners, the demonstrations in support of them in the occupied territories, and even within Israel. The peak within Israel was the arrest and physical harassment of 17 of our comrades who were protesting in front of the prison hospital in Ramle, where two striker are dying. read full story / add a comment
poland / czech / slovakia / the left / opinion / analysis Thursday May 03, 2012 22:49 by akai
Compared to many places in Europe, the socio-political situation in Poland is quite tragic with nearly complete right-wing ideological hegemony and attacks on workers' rights and access to public services which go years beyond the reforms just being introduced in the rest of Euope. With little social response to it. As part of one of the few organized pockets of resistance, I try to focus and try to go forward, yet taking a sober look around, the forces that are gaining as the crisis worsens are from the right and extreme right, while the left flounders and the anti-authoritarian movement struggles to keep afloat during a period of social resignation. read full story / add a comment

Last week there was an escalation in the pressure against the Palestinians in chosen locations that Israel wants to transfer them from - in the south and East Jerusalem neighborhoods. After the first successful hunger strike of two Palestinian administrative detainees, the hunger strike of 1,500 administrative detainees is widescale and the demonstrations of support and solidarity hunger strikes are abundant. In addition to the weekly demonstrations promoting this theme, Ramallah and the concentration camp of Ofer are the main locations, with mounting confrontations between demonstrators and Israeli State forces. In addition to the social struggle within Israel that is gaining momentum, we had actions and solidarity demos with the African refugees. A May 1st demo with a black block will start in Tel Aviv in the early evening. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment
north america / mexico / anarchist movement / press release Monday April 30, 2012 22:54 by Chris Alexander
Since May 1, 2006 we have seen a slow opening up of mass struggles on a scale not seen in recent memory, amplified by the silent economic crash in 2008. From the massive day without an immigrant to the historic Arab Spring; the Wisconsin workers uprising to the prisoners strikes in Georgia and California; Occupy Wall Street to the rallies for Justice for Trayvon Martin; General strikes of students in Chile and Quebec and of workers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. People committed to real change cannot help but feel the wind in our sails. People are rising and refusing, struggles are igniting, common ground is revealing itself, we are beginning to feel and take back our power, everywhere.

Despite the rise of new fighting forces, pain is growing not decreasing. Symbolic changes at the peak of empire—codename Obama—have only served to further entrench the direction of decline, with Democrats bringing the stick when the Republicans aren’t there to make their bad cop look good. Deportations have increased, prisons are overflowing, the local face of a global war given new legitimacy, while organized racist violence dares to seize an ever greater public stage. Cutbacks and the destruction of public safety nets pay for corporate welfare and bankers’ bailouts. Ecological destruction continues apace: tar sands mining, fracking, nuclear power, and the daily grind of a system that cannot long coexist with dignified human life on earth. read full story / add a comment

Israel state is in panic from the coming third Intifada. It did an overkill efforts to prevent a few hundred international activist from entering. While in media focus created by it, it had a big shame when Israeli colonel was on video showing brutal hitting of a Danish cyclist in a troop cycling in a demo along the Jordan river valley. The Bil'in seventh international conference was in the focus of the joint struggle not pushing aside the weekly joint demonstrations of the anarchists against the wall have with the popular comities of Beit Ummar, Bi'lin, Kufr A-Dik, Sheikh Jarrah, Al-Ma’sara, Nabi Saleh, Ni'ilin, Kufr Qaddum, Walaje. Week after week, more than 50 Israelis activists are mobilized with the AAtW and more than 100 other Israeli radicals with various other initiatives are promoting popular struggle against occupation and hampering transfer. When the call for the third non armed Intifada is issued by the Palestinian leader Marwan Burguti from his jail cell, the 7th Bil'in Conference of popular struggle is both celebration the log way we made, commemoration the martyrs murdered by the Israeli state forces, solidarity with the activists in jail and opportunity for wishing health for all those injured during the non yielding struggle. Hundreds of internationals, Palestinians from the whole west bank, and two dozen Israeli activists participated in the first day of the conference. It happened after a week and of joint struggles in various locations of the occupied Palestine, and it will end in the Friday demo in Bil'in that symbolize the unyielding joint non armed struggle against the separation fence that now is on the verge of transforming into the much fiercer Intifada. (This explain the vicious attack on the Nabi Saleh, Qaddum villages and Beit Ummar whose struggle is not related to the Wall. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

The involved of the Israeli anarchists against the wall initiative and other Israeli radicals that joined us, within the popular non armed struggle of the grass root Palestinian communities, prevented the Israeli state to suppress it with rivers of blood. Now, that it collected momentum, the most popular Palestinian leader Marwan Burguti call for the third Intifada. It may take time to develop as the Palestinian authority do not seem to be happy for this development... But, may be it will not be able to put too many sticks in the wheels that start to spin. The Israeli state seems to be nearly helpless to stop this development but they vent their frustration on the heroic people of Nabi Saleh that are the symbol of the expanded of the struggle beyond the confrontations regarding the separation fence/wall.

It is not an easy thing to continue the grass root non armed popular struggle week after week, year after year... But, nothing keep the back more straight and the spirits higher than the tsumud (persistence) in the struggle against the suppression and the persecution of the Israeli state forces. They regarding the popular struggle even as more potent than us, but are often vacillating between a ferocious steps of repression, and retreat from them due to wider political considerations. It is still vivid with me the memory of one of the intense confrontations. It was in the first year of the struggle in Bil'in. The state forces tried to impose a strict curfew and prevent about 450 Israelis fro joining the villagers in a demo against the building of the separation fence. After a siege around the village and tens of armed cars in it with tear gas shooting and arrests, they fought us viciously from down till afternoon... when they gave up and went away... and we marched undisturbed to the separation fence and along it - the first time after more than half a year of preventing us from doing it. It was a second Friday with Israeli activist of the anarchists against the wall initiative seriously wounded. Last week demo it was a metal bullet rubbed by rubber that hit the nap of the neck of one of our group in Naby Saleh. The previous Friday it was a tear gas canister that broke the leg of another comrade. It seems the state force stop to discriminate between us and the Palestinians in the demonstrations. They need may be another scandal in the Israeli media following a serious assault on an Israeli activist documented by us. Though it is not easy, the new persistent villages struggles are slowly absorbed by our initiative. Bil'in and Ni'ilin who were in the front of the struggle and repression are receding to the background, Naby Saleh draw most of the pressure, and we still have to see how it will be in Qaddum and A-Dic. It takes time till a new village that started to involve in the persistent non-armed popular struggle catch the consistent weekend demonstrations. Beit Dajan seems to be the new addition, but only the coming weeks will tell. This week the hard core is consisted with Beit Ummar, Bil'in, A-Dik, Ma'asara, Nabi Saleh, Ni'ilin, Qaddum, Sheikh Jarrah, to whom are added the South Hebron actions in support of harassed farmers, and the occupied Jerusalem neighborhood Silwan. Qalandia checkpoint which see more often actions had its focus this week too. A large force of Garda and council workers were deployed at 3.30am today, International Women's Day, to clear Occupy Dame Street (ODS) camp. The camp was completely demolished in the course of the eviction, campers intimidated and their personal property stolen. This was a level of force way out of proportion with the numbers in the camp (about 15 people) and stands in contrast with the lack of resources put into investigating what happened at Anglo, the collapse of which has left a debt of 26,000 Euro on every single person in the country.   [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

The end of February saw 19 Shell to Sea campaigners, including a WSM member, being prosecuted on 80 charges for civil disobediance against Shell's decade long attempt to impose an experimental high pressure raw gas pipeline on the communities of Erris.  Over 8,000 euro in fines were handed down by this special sitting of the Belmullet court and Shell to Sea spokesperson Terence Conway was given two 3-month prison sentences under section 8 of the Public Order Act for blocking the road on two seperate occasions, a 'crime' that anyone following the struggle will be aware Shell's private security company committs three times a day with the co-operation of the Gardai. Some times it feels like a Sisyphus endeavor, but the persistent struggle continues. Small gains and the faint call of the first swallows that surfed the wind of the last winter storm are bringing the spring to the tortured east of the Mediterranean sea. The news about the successes of B.D.S. and other solidarity actions of international support encourage us in spite of the soaring wave of the Israeli settler colonialist efforts.
