Ci sono oggi circa 5 milioni di lavoratori in Romania. Altri 3 milioni (un quarto della forza-lavoro locale) lavorano in altri paesi dell'Unione Europea, per lo più in Spagna ed Italia. Il tasso ufficiale dei disoccupati è stimato al 6,7%, ma non è un dato affidabile. Questo dato riguarda solo le persone che sono registrate come disoccupati e non considera il totale di persone che potrebbe lavorare ma viene escluso. Per cui il numero reale dei disoccupati in realtà non è noto (o non viene comunicato dal governo), ma in base a logiche deduzioni, ci sarebbe da contare un ulteriore milione di persone. There are about 5 million employees in Romania, currently. Some other 3 million people (a quarter of the local work force) work in other countries from the European Union, mostly Spain and Italy. Despre nici o alta ţară europeană nu se ştie atât de puţin în privinţa mişcării anarhiste şi anarho-sindicaliste cât se ştie despre România. Deşi învecinată la sud cu Bulgaria unde mişcarea a atins una dintre cele mai extinse, mai numeroase si mai durabile influenţe sociale de până atunci, (ca în final sa fie trecută în ilegalitate şi distrusă de către dictatura naţionalistă şi mai apoi de către comunişti), influenţa anarhismului a rămas întotdeauna redusă în România. Până în prezent studiile arată că perioada 1907-1916 este aceea în care mişcarea anarho-sindicalistă a atins cel mai înalt punct din dezvoltare aici. În special, în centre industriale ca Ploieşti, Galaţi şi Brăila majoritatea muncitorilor s-a organizat pe principii sindicale revoluţionare, a publicat reviste anarho-sindicaliste si a dus lupte pentru îmbunătăţirea condiţiilor de viaţă şi de muncă prin metode de acţiune directă. S-a dovedit că mai înainte au existat încă din 1896 cercuri anarhiste explicite în oraşe ca Iaşi şi Bucureşti, cel mai adesea parte din partidul social democrat. About nearly no other European country is there so little known about the anarchist and anarcho-syndicalist movement as Romania. Up to the present day, studies have shown that between 1907 and 1916 the anarcho-syndicalist movement here reached the climax of its development. Especially, in industrial towns such as Ploieşti, Galaţi and Brăila, the majority of workers organized themselves on revolutionary syndicalist principles, published anarcho-syndicalist magazines and fought for the improvement of life and work conditions through direct action methods. Moreover, it has been proven that explicit anarchist circles existed previously in towns such as Iaşi and Bucureşti, often as part of the social democrat party. Nell'ultimo numero di ottobre di "Industrial Worker" giornale dell'Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) compare un'intervista con il segretario internazionale dell'Initiativa Anarho-Sindicalista din Romania (IASR - Iniziativa Anarco-Sindacalista di Romania). Nell'intervista vengono presentate la struttura organizzativa, le attività più significative, come pure le difficoltà che gli anarco-sindacalisti devono affrontare in Romania. Si parla anche della situazione della "inesistente" sinistra rumena e della situazione degli anarchici. Veniamo a sapere anche che la IASR ha fatto domanda per essere ammessa nell'AIT ed è in attesa della decisione prevista per il prossimo congresso dell'AIT. En la entrevista, se define la estructura organizativa y las aspiraciones de la labor principal de la Iniciativa así como las dificultades a las que los anarcosindicalistas en Rumanía se enfrentan. También se refiere a la situación de “inexistencia” de la izquierda política en el país, y la situación de los anarquistas. The current October issue of the “Industrial Worker” of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) includes an interview with the international secretary of the Anarcho-Syndicalist Initiative from Romania (I.A.S.R.). In the interview, he discusses the organizational structure and aspirations of the main work of the Initiative as well as the difficulties which anarcho-syndicalists in Romania are confronted with. He also addresses the situation of the “non-existent” political left in the country, and the situation of anarchists. Readers are also informed that the I.A.S.R. has made an application for membership in the International Workers Association (IWA) on which the coming congress of the IWA shall decide.
