Irish citizens voted against the EU Nice treaty in June 2001 briefly throwing a spanner into the works of the neoliberal EU agenda. The response was to force a second vote accompanied by a lot of scare mongering the following year. Shortly before the second referendum the pro-neoliberal media 'revealed' that the leader of the right wing anti-treaty campaign had been present at far right meetings in Germany, something that helped scare people into voting for the treaty second time around.
Once more Irish citizens are voting on an EU treaty. This time around some months before the vote WSM member Chekov Feeny published this expose of the strange connections of another right wing anti-treaty group, an article that illustrates the inter imperialist rivalry between the supposed USA and EU 'allies'.. In part to seperate the anarchist 'No' campaign from the right but also to pre-empt a repeat of Nice 2 with such last minute 'revelations' being used to attack the no campaign in general. read full story / add a comment

deze zomer vanaf het huidige aantal van 1.700, maar het zal ook een bataljon van

Not only will it increase its manpower on the ground, which will increase to 2,700 soldiers this summer up from the current figure of 1,700, but it will be sending a battalion of 700 soldiers to a combat zone of much more intensity than the area of Kabul where most of the French task force is currently concentrated.
