Dans son livre «Le savant et le politique», le sociologue allemand Max Weber a très bien décrit le rapport que l’État entretient avec la violence. Selon Weber, l’État moderne s’est approprié «le monopole de la violence physique légitime». C’est même l’une des conditions de sa survie. On le sait, les appareils répressifs (la police, l’armée, le système carcéral) sont sous le contrôle exclusif de l’État. Celui-ci utilise leur force pour préserver l’ordre social sur son territoire. Mais comme l’État est sensé représenter le «bien commun», on finit par penser que la police et l’armée sont au service de la population… C’est du moins ce qu’on tente de nous faire croire. Là où règne l’inégalité, l’appareil de répression a un rôle bien précis à jouer : préserver les privilèges d’une minorité par tous les moyens nécessaires. read full story / add a comment
