Pocas palabras tienen tanta fuerza en el imaginario colectivo de los movimientos populares colombianos como dignidad. Mientras en otros países palabras como “libertad” o “igualdad” cristalizan el sentir profundo de las masas, en los llamados a movilizarse en Colombia la palabra “dignidad” aparece con inusual frecuencia, así como en los nombres de varias organizaciones. Hay también quienes, en el contexto del conflicto social y armado, hablan de buscar la “paz con dignidad”. read full story / add a comment

Il sistema capitalista si è sviluppato ad un livello ancora più alto. La concentrazione di capitale e l'abbassamento delle barriere tra i singoli stati capitalisti ha allentato la competizione nazionale ed ha aperto una nuova era. Non più minacce di guerra tra gli Stati o tra blocchi di Stati. Viene meno il bisogno dei capitalisti di assicurarsi la volontà di combattere in guerra da parte degli schiavi salariati. La produzione e persino i servizi si stanno spostando verso i paesi meno sviluppati. Molti lavoratori ospiti o migranti giungono nei paesi sviluppati... ed i capitalisti ne estraggono maggiore plusvalore. [English] read full story / add a comment

The capitalist system has developed to a higher stage. The concentration of capital and the lowering of borders between individual capitalist states has diminished national competition and brought a new era. No more threat of military wars between States and blocs of States. Much less the need of capitalists to ensure the willingness of wage slaves to fight for them in wars. Production and even services are moving to the less-developed countries. Many guest and migrant workers are arriving in developed countries... and the capitalists are extracting more and more surplus value. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Rioting erupted in ‘nationalist areas’ across the North on Tuesday after the annual Orange Order parades. The worst of the trouble was in Ardoyne in North Belfast which left 16 police officers injured and with over 60 lethal plastic bullets fired leaving many people injured. It is this time of year again when the spectre of sectarianism and division comes to the fore in the north of Ireland. It is a time when communities, kerbstones and poles are marked and carved into territory. There are those who will be living in fear and silenced from speaking out while the rest of us are told to turn the other check in the interests of peace and stability. It is unfortunate, if perhaps somewhat inevitable, that the now annual battles around the ‘marching season’ fall along religious lines. The Orange parades are being used to test the supposed 'neutrality' of the northern regime and the PSNI in particular. The losing side in this dangerous game however is likely to be the working class, as the confrontations and the sectarian attacks that occur around the Orange marches drive people further into ‘their own’ communities. read full story / add a comment

Brasil vive el tema del medio ambiente de forma caótica y contradictoria. De un lado tenemos, por la óptica del desarrollo sostenible, una de las más avanzadas legislaciones ambientales del mundo, representada especialmente por el Código Forestal. Del otro, se vive el resplandor del sector primario por ocupar enormes extensiones de tierras y volver su producción hacia los mercados externos. Si en este escenario ya existe la falta de respeto a la biodiversidad brasileña, la devastación ambiental puede hacerse aún mayor después de la aprobación del nuevo Código por la Cámara de los Diputados el último día 25 de mayo (y ahora tramitado en el Senado, otra casa parlamentaria con amplia mayoría de partidos aliados con el gobierno). Mientras se votaba la nueva legislación ambiental, el ministro de la Casa Civil y coordinador político del gobierno de Dilma Rousseff, Antonio Palocci no resistió a las denuncias a lo largo del mes de mayo. Según el periódico Folha de São Paulo, el ministro habría multiplicado su patrimonio por 20 en cuatro años, mientras su empresa de consultoría financiera tuvo de ganancia alrededor de R$ 20 millones sólo en 2010, principalmente durante el periodo en que Palocci tenía acceso a datos reservados y planes de inversión del gobierno federal. read full story / add a comment
