Las tiras cómicas se han convertido en un elemento explosivo, abriendo profundas brechas políticas en el marco del nuevo orden mundial y, muy a menudo, disimulando la intolerancia y distrayendo el debate sobre el racismo y el imperialismo amparándose en una interpretación abusiva de la “libertad de expresión”. El último episodio comenzó por una tira cómica publicada en Ha’aretz en la cual el primer ministro israelí Benjamin Netanyahu y el ministro de Defensa Ehud Barak daban la despedida a las tropas que marchaban a bombardear Irán, pidiéndoles que a la vuelta bombardearan también las oficinas de la UNESCO en Ramallah. read full story / add a comment

It was recently reported by various newspapers that ‘a “notorious gang of anarchists” with links to cash heists is attempting to destabilise the Gauteng ANC’. Newspaper articles [*] quoted ANC provincial secretary David Makhura as saying that an ANC investigation would ‘expose the hidden hand of business people who are fuelling and financing activities that seek to disrupt the functioning of the ANC’.
The claims came after a group of disgruntled party members allegedly held an unofficial parallel election to decide the party’s Tshwane leader. According to Makhura the parallel gathering ‘was organised by a notorious gang of anarchists, most of whom have disciplinary cases’. read full story / add a comment

Cartoons have become explosive, underlining deep political fault lines in the new world order and more often than not, concealing bigotry and diverting debate from racism and imperialism to the much abused concept of “freedom of expression”. The latest episode was started by a cartoon published in Ha’aretz in which the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Minister of Defence Ehud Barak, say farewell to troops on the way to bomb Iran, while asking them to bomb the UNESCO offices in Ramallah on the way back. read full story / add a comment

Δεν θα πρέπει, φυσικά, να ξεχνάμε ποτέ ότι δεν μπορεί να υπάρξει δημοκρατία στην πολιτική, εκτός αν υπάρχει δημοκρατία στην οικονομία. Όσο η οικονομία (δηλαδή, η οργάνωση των μέσων για την εξασφάλιση της διαβίωσης των ανθρώπων) βρίσκεται στα χέρια μιας μειοψηφίας, θα είναι στην υπηρεσία μιας μειοψηφίας. Και αυτή η μειοψηφία θα έχει ισχύ έναντι των άλλων, χωρίς να χρειάζεται να ανησυχεί αν κυβερνά μέσω δημοψηφισμάτων ή τεχνοκρατών. Αυτό είναι το βασικό όριο της δημοκρατίας, της ιερής ατομικής ιδιοκτησίας, και αυτό θα πρέπει να είναι το πρώτο στοιχείο που κάθε πραγματικά εναλλακτικό σχέδιο πρέπει να σκεφτεί, εάν θέλει να πολεμήσει και ξεπεράσει την κρίση. read full story / add a comment

È bastato solo una profonda crisi economica e un po' di malcontento popolare perché le democrazie europee abbandonassero la loro facciata liberale e si mostrassero per ciò che realmente sono: la dittatura del grande Capitale. Non vale nulla il parere dei cittadini, il colpo di Stato in Grecia, la nomina dei tecnocrati al governo in Italia e il governo in Irlanda telecomandato da Bruxelles, queste sono le migliori prove che nemmeno in Europa si esita a prescindere dai formalismi democratici se gli interessi dell'1% sono a rischio. All that was needed was a profound economic crisis and a little discontent among the people for Europe's democracies to abandon their liberal facade and show themselves for what they really are: the dictatorship of large Capital. Bastó una crisis económica profunda y un poco de descontento popular para que las democracias europeas abandonaran su fachada liberal y se mostraran como lo que realmente son: la dictadura del gran Capital. De nada importa la opinión de los ciudadanos, el golpe de Estado en Grecia, el nombramiento de tecnócratas en el gobierno italiano y el gobierno en Irlanda controlado a control remoto desde Bruselas, son la mejor prueba de que en la mismísima Europa tampoco se vacila en prescindir de formalismos democráticos si los intereses del 1% están en riesgo. كانت الانتفاضات الثورية التى اجتاحت العالم العربى فيما سمى بربيعه، نتيجة تحريض واسع النطاق ضد الاستبداد وتوريث الحكم وفساده وقهره، وتبشير طويل الأمد قامت به النخبة، بالنموذج الديمقراطى كما تجسد فى الدول الرأسمالية المتقدمة، وهو ما وضع سقفا للطموح الشعبى، ولمطالب الانتفاضات، ولا شك أن تحريضا آخر ضد الرأسمالية والبيروقراطية، وتبشير ببديل آخر يتجاوز الرأسمالية ودولتها الديمقراطية البرلمانية،سوف يؤدى فى النهاية لانتفاضات من نوع مختلف تتطور بسهولة لثورة اجتماعية، فهل يمكن أن نبدأ. read full story / add a comment

إن الثورات لا يمكن الحكم عليها سلفا , صحيح أنها قد تنحط , أو قد تهزم , لكنها مثل أي حادثة في التاريخ , لا يمكن التنبؤ بها سلفا , يمكن الجزم هنا أن الثوار الباريسيين لم يكن بمقدورهم أن يتخيلوا و هم يحطمون جدران الباستيل أنهم سيطلقون أشهر ثورة في العالم و أبعدها أثرا , و لا كان من الممكن في فبراير شباط 1917 تخيل أن عمال بتروغراد كانوا على وشك أن يطلقوا أكبر ثورة اشتراكية ظافرة في العالم , و لا كان أحد يتخيل في فبراير شباط 1979 أن الثورة الإيرانية ستنحط إلى نظام ثيوقراطي قمعي بينما كانت الثورة الإيرانية تبدو في عنفوانها .. في الثورات يخوض الناس , تخوض كل الطبقات و الفئات المشاركة في الثورة , غمار الصراع بكل قوتها , و تتحدد النتيجة النهائية كمحصلة لهذه الجهود المتناقضة read full story / add a comment

Alex is a long standing activist in the IWW union, housing struggles in the East End, and the big left events since the start of the recession, most recently the M26 Militant Workers Block and the J30 Strike project. He was a direct witness to the rioting on Monday.
