There are two possible futures. In one of them, the conflicts between the imperialist countries, and between them and China, will grow until some miscalculation leads to a nuclear war which could destroy humanity. The other possibility, the only means of avoiding that fate, is a workers' revolution to abolish capitalism and eliminate the causes of war. We can do it and we start by building the labour movement and taking a stand against militarism today. Instead of idolising the Anzacs, we should mourn them, and instead of glorifying the military, we should oppose its very existence. read full story / add a comment

Shell to Sea have released a very detailed report into the GSOC 'investigation' of the Garda at the center of the 'Corrib Cops Rape Tape' which first came to public attention one year ago today. The report reveals that the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) engaged in spin and misinformation that misled the public over the Corrib ‘rape’ recording incident of March 2011 and undermined the case against Gardaí. The report details GSOC’s attempts to serve the interests of An Garda Síochána by undermining the women who made the recording public, while deflecting attention from the behaviour of Gardaí. The document was prepared by Shell to Sea with one of the women about whom the ‘rape’ comments were made and seven academics at NUI Maynooth. With the announcement today by the TEEU and Unite that they are urging a No vote in the forthcoming Fiscal Compact Referendum allied to the fact that Mandate announced a similar position yesterday a clear division is emerging between the leading trade unions. SIPTU has basically offer its support for the treaty in return for a funded job creation plan, this is basically the union leadership buying time before it falls in line with Labour and calls for a yes vote. read full story / add a comment

O Estado de Mato Grosso nos últimos 10 anos destacou-se na mídia nacional como um grande produtor da monocultura da soja e da cana-de-açúcar, exportando sua produção para outros Estados e países. Por detrás de toda essa “grande produção” temos práticas de trabalho escravo e assassinatos decorrentes à invasão de pequenas propriedades para o aumento da área de plantio e gerando uma enorme destruição ambiental nessas regiões. Esse mesmo plantio serve somente para a exportação aos países de primeiro mundo e fábricas de rações destinadas ao gado de corte que no Estado vem beneficiando a poucos que concentram imensas fortunas em suas mãos. Na capital passamos pela desenfreada corrida pelas obras da Copa de 2014, o governo estadual tem destinado uma enorme quantidade da verba pública para obras faraônicas que privilegiam uma elite e expulsam os pobres para áreas cada vez mais distantes, dificultando inclusive a entrada desses em determinadas regiões da cidade. read full story / add a comment
