Unlike the capitalists, the working class can unite across national boundaries. We can sweep away the capitalists and their State, with its armies, police and prisons. We can build libertarian communism, a world of peace and plenty, a world of both freedom and security. We can and we must. ... read full story / add a comment

With the Regional elections now over, the political coalitions continue to court the Vatican, offering the Catholic Church a breather from the tragic situation it finds itself in thanks to the scandal of paedophile priests. And given the fact that current policies are geared towards criminalizing foreigners or, in less extreme cases, reducing the numbers of foreigners in the various holding centres - which translates into big business for Catholic bodies - the only ace left up Italian politicians' collective sleeve in their attempt to curry favour with the Pope is to take it out on women. Only through Direct Action, as seen in the case of the struggling small-scale farmers and the people of the South, who practise it intuitively and as an instinct of their oppressed class, can victory be achieved and the State be brought to its knees. We therefore call on all revolutionary and proletarian forces to exercise this class solidarity, to vigorously and actively support the struggles of the native and peasant communities, in order to prevent social activists from being killed with impunity and stop NAFTA's silent genocide. It doesn't need to stand for elections, be they national, regional or European, itself. It knows it will win anyway. From elections, it expects the State and local government system to be put at its disposal. From coalitions it expects the electorate to be divided by the various programmes and parties on geographical, language, religious, ethical bases (even ideological if necessary), as long as citizens' class interests are hidden from view. Carmen M. is a member of the waiters’ and cooks’ base trade union. After returning from a short medical leave she was fired by her boss, Stelios Karezos, owner of VIA-VAI – a large coffee shop chain in Athens. At the meetings that followed in order to arrange for the salaries and compensation she was owed, Karezos was provocative against the worker as well as representatives of the base union. On March 23d, the day when the final settlement was to be made, Karezos realised the mass presence of members of the union and started photographing them with his digital camera. After a demand that he deleted the photos, he pulled up his shirt to show the GUN he was carrying with him. ... read full story / add a comment

Year after year the 8 March - International Day of Working Women - is responsible for a small commercial boom in shops selling clothes, makeup, flowers and all those other products aimed at us women; it often happens too that on this day, State and private institutions provide some sort of treat or reward for certain women, as if this act could lead to an improvement in the working and cultural conditions that both exploit and oppress women in Huancayo, in Peru, or throughout the world. This leads us to ask whether 8 March has been reduced to a 24-hours opportunity for shouting "Happy Women's Day!" to the four winds... [Castellano] ... read full story / add a comment

The earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12th, also shook the consciousness and the heart of people all over the world, in whose eyes Haiti once again existed. It also shook our memory, since in between the press releases on this natural catastrophe, there have been leaks of the “social” catastrophes that have been suffered by the Haitian people and which are never taught at school. US and UN military occupations, bloody dictatorships backed by the Pentagon, embargoes and sanctions imposed by French and US imperialism, all of which have been as devastating as the earthquake.
